Before you give Spruce a folder.
The things people usually want to know about file access, privacy, and undo.
Does Spruce permanently delete files?
No. Deletions go to the system Trash or Recycle Bin.
Can I see what it will do first?
Yes. Spruce lists every matching file and destination. Nothing changes until you choose Apply.
What if the preview is wrong?
Untick any proposed change you do not want, edit the instruction, or close the plan without choosing Apply. No files change just because Spruce made a preview.
Can I undo a cleanup?
Open History to undo supported changes. The files and destinations Spruce needs must still exist, and deleted items must still be in Trash or the Recycle Bin.
Which folders can Spruce access?
Only folders and files you choose or authorize through macOS or Windows. Spruce uses that access to build previews and apply the changes you approve.
Can Spruce move files outside the folder I selected?
A plan can include a destination outside the starting folder only when you have chosen or authorized that destination. Review every destination before Apply.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Scanning and file changes happen on your computer. If you add a Claude or OpenAI key, Spruce sends that provider only the instruction you typed—not your files or folder contents.
How do I verify the installer?
The Download and Releases pages list each filename, signing method, file size, and SHA-256 checksum. Stop if your downloaded file does not match those details.
Why might macOS or Windows show a warning?
Both systems confirm newly downloaded apps, and Windows SmartScreen may warn while a new app builds reputation. Spruce publishes its signing details so you can check the prompt before continuing.
Can a cleanup run automatically?
Beta schedules run while Spruce is open. Background runs after closing the app are not included yet. Trash and Recycle Bin actions still ask first.
What should I expect during the beta?
The main cleanup workflow is ready to use, but features and details may change as I get feedback.
Do I need an account?
No. Downloading Spruce and using the local cleanup workflow do not require an account.
Which computers does Spruce support?
Spruce supports macOS 13 and later and Windows 10 and 11. Native installers are available for Apple silicon, Intel Mac, Windows x64, and Windows ARM64.
